I'll be glad to help with big tarp deployment, and Hickery and others as well, I'm sure.
Son of Blue has traditionally been reserved for the Grayson Fall and winter hangs but maybe we can come up with something. If we don't have a tarp that big, maybe a combination of two or more "not as big" tarps to shelter the fire area.

A huge thank you to those who cook and provide food for some meals!
I will gladly make cash donations for food and wood.

I should be there Thursday morning.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Thanks Slowhike, there is probably not good tree spacing for a larger tarp.
I’ve got tarp, (20x30?) Chappy donated for Yates.
Can’t remember if it was set at Yates, or if Peeeeetey set his tarp in patch of pines.

If I remember, I’ll get more rope

And all Old Pros are permanently invited. Even if you don’t bring your kitchen! You are welcome with your hammock and mug.

And if you miss this Yates, due to weather or circumstance, get to the next one.

The only cost for any food I cook & offer to everyone is a smile and a thanks! No donations accepted and if they are pressed into my hands it gets transferred to Phantom towards the firewood.

    Many thanks Slugger!

PG, if you'll bring that 20 x 30' tarp, we'll get it hung. I have some rope that I'll bring as well. And a rock sack that will help to get the rope over the limbs we want.
Also, the tarps I have stored in the shed have gotten buggered up, so I'm hoping some others will bring a few. Besides the big tarp, a few other tarps off to the sides could be handy if we get a lot of rain.

Looking at google maps, I may try an alternative route coming in, just for the heck of it.
According to the map, coming south on 109, it shows that I could fork off to the right on River Rd in Eldorado, and then left on the other end of Dusty Level Rd.
Anyone done that? Any better, worse?

Thanks Slowhike, the alternate route is not as good, much longer on gravel road with all its ruts and mud holes.
Best route 109, turn onto Correll Road, go to end turn right onto Dusty Level Road.

    A call for help
Please bring a large empty cooler, to help hold this large amount of burgers.

I am going to wait to purchase burger patties until Friday evening.
    Two reasons
I’ll get a better headcount for Saturday lunch
And the meat should be fresher instead of buying it EARLY in the week

I have two standard sized coolers and one small cooler. Might need two more coolers?

    I don’t know, thanks

I have a big blue tarp that i inherited from a construction company doing work for us. I think its 30x60 (could be wrong) but I will bring if needed, someone else will need to supply to ropeage. Would recommend setting the tarp up on friday.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

    NC Yates Hang Spring 2024 March 7 8 9 10

To tarp or not to tarp
Yes, tarps and pop up canopies

I got to remember to get rope tomorrow

I got a hundred feet rope today, braided nylon, will stretch a bit. Mix and match with old rope.
It said working strength 80 pounds. Probably 4 or 5 hundred pounds to break it.
