My thanks to the Jacks for the creativity of developing multi-function top/bottom quilts that enable their year round all season combo.
As a novice hanger, I was struggling to decide what quilts to get and what temperature ranges, to allow me the most flexibility. Everything I was looking at either made you use the heaviest UQ for all temperatures, or by matched UQ and TQ pairs over multiple temperature ranges. Jacks 3 quilt combo solves that problem, convertinga very wide temperature range with fewer quilts. Taking inspiration from their description of how to use their 3 quilt combo, I bought their UL versions of the HR and SH multi function quilts to save a little weight, and then bought GL4 instead of the OMR since it’ll always be used as an UQ (and my pack’s foam back pad can go under my feet).
This gives tremendous flexibility with fewer quilts:
Cold weather - GL4 for UQ, HR+SH for TQ
Cool weather - GL4 for UQ, HR for TQ
Warn weather - HR for UQ, SH for TQ
Hot weather - SH for UQ, ??? For TQ, maybe the new 8 oz summer blanket at JRB?
On paper, the temperature ranges might be Cold > 0 deg, Cool > 20 degrees, Warm > 40 deg and Hot > 55 deg at night. But we’ll see through use what temperature ranges really work for me.
