EGL - Gearing Up For Winter Hang, Jan 12-14, 2024 - Valens Lake Conservation Area

    Hey all,

I'm hoping everyone is having a safe and jolly holiday season.

I'd like to send out an open invitation to one and all to join the EGL in ringing in the new year in one of the best ways possible, cold weather hammocking and hot tenting with friends while enjoying delicious foods around a roaring fire.

For the newcomers, this is a great opportunity to not only test your winter hammocking gear, but to check out other setups and talk to others about how they've addressed the same winter challenges.

    Venue: Valens Conservation Area (1691 Regional Rd 97, Cambridge, ON N1R 5S7) / Jan 12-14, 2024.

Hopefully we'll have some nice crisp weather.

Hi:I'm hoping to join the gang in Valens just wondering what the hot tent of choice is .I'm not new to winter camping ,so i find it confusing most hammock hot tents are synthetic , meaning they will frost up significantly if the fire goes out and temperatures drop . Plus i'm a side sleeper so I need to be looking into bridge hammocks if i plan on a good nights sleep any suggestions there . I have a number of hammocks and i bought a onetigris hammock tent the best advice maybe to just show up learn what works .

Yup, show up, talk and if something seems to click for you, that's a path to follow.

That is assuming you make it through the initiation rituals muhahaha

Not as cheap as Onetigris, and you’ll have to wait to get one, but Smokehouse makes hammock friendly hot tents, and offers Canvas as a material. I have no experience with them, I just came across them while looking into hammock hot tent options.

Hello all, I was wondering if you might let a USA dude hang with y'all. Nothing for sure yet, but I saw your only 8.5 hours away.
Is it a pack all your gear in or drive up to the camping spot?

    Thank you
