that's exactly what I was thinking, or feet for walking sticks/canes.

Back in 2001 when I was in Oracle, Az - I had a surgery and needed a walking staff to recuperate. Kent, found this Sotol cactus and I made a 70-inch staff. Plenty strong, not as light as bamboo.

So I finally cut some bamboo poles from my brother-in-law's yard. I hung last night with one end connected to a tree and the other end on a pole. I did vertical prusiks on the pole using homemade continual loops (once to connect to my hammock with a soft shackle and one foot my guy lines to the stakes) and used homemade UCRs to guy out to 12-in heavy duty steel stakes. Unfortunately this configuration puts a lot of pressure on the stakes, as the good folks at Tensa Outdoor know. The soil where I'm camping is very loose and one stake kept ripping out of the ground. I think it's time to invest in some boomstakes!

Change the angle of your pole so that the top is farther in the direction of the stakes. The more angle away from the hammock the less pull on the stakes. Doubling up on the stakes can help as well.

I angled the pole better and added a 3rd guy out/stake (had 2 at angles, the new 3rd is inline with the pole/hammock) and it held splendidly. Thanks for the suggestion!Originally Posted by LowTech

Since you're already splicing here's another way to do multiple stakes w/o needing to run extra guylines.
I only used the soft shackle so that it would slip better but I think a welded ring or rated carbineer would work even better and keep it from being cord on cord.
In the photo it's a folded dogbone but mostly I use a 3' dogbone (line w/ a spliced loop on each end) and soft shackle or larks head the dogbone to the stakes after running it through whatever I have on the end of my guylines. It self-adjusts the pull between the two stakes and keeps me from having to run extra guylines.IMG_20230909_190132820.jpg

That looks brilliant! Do you feel that it's equal in terms of security/stability? The direction/angle of force on the stakes appears to be changed, but is that a relevant factor? I'll test it next time I'm out.
