Greetings from a new hanger in Central Texas

    Hi, y'all!

I live in Austin, TX, and have started hammock-camping with my nephews on some family-owned land near Corpus Christi (outside Beeville, if you know the area) a couple of months ago. I LOVE that no small, thorny plants or rocks can poke through the bottom of my shelter (compared to tents). I love swaying in the breeze. I'm hooked! I get a little obsessive, and have watched most of Shug's videos (how I found HammockForum), and have been lurking and reading here for a while. Thank you all for the knowledge and wisdom and experiences you share here!

    Hi and Welcome,
If you happen to "Do" Facebook, search for "Texas Hammock Hangers". They do a few yearly gatherings. One just happened in November. They used to do the November Hang at Fairfield State Park but you've probably read about those changes. There has also been a hang down on the coast, I forget where. Also some hangs in and around Austin. Last time I hung at Austin was probably 10 year ago. I do the sport of Orienteering and there is an Austin Club and my buddy and I went down to the event at McKinney Falls SP and I hung while he tented.....and cooked our steak dinners.

Cheers, thanks! I am not on Facebook, unfortunately. I'll consider it for the future; It would be cool to meet other hammockers for sure! It's cool to know McKinney Falls allows hanging! That's fantastic!

Welcome my dude!! I too was enamored with Shug's videos in 2013 and it's what helped paved the path to me embarking into the beautiful world of hammocking...

Call and check. Rules might have changed. I hung there some 10+ years ago. I believe all Texas State Parks now require 2 inch webbing on tree straps. They didn't back then. But then I never saw a ranger past the front gate.

Welcome to the forum! A big reason I started looking into a hammock was the uneven ground and lack of flat spots (if you don’t take the time to dig one out) the Rocky Mountains have. So I can relate to the huge step up in comfort that comes with getting off the ground! We look forward to hearing more from you in the future.
