Soft shackle directly into grosgrain loop pullout?

I have tried searching for info, but I think I can't find a good way to phrase the search. So figured I would just ask in a new thread and risk ridicule.

Is it a bad idea to tie a soft shackle directly into a grosgain loop; replacing the currently sewn in Lineloc 3?

I had the lineloc slipping badly on my HammockGear tarp in very wet and poor weather this weekend and would like to eliminate them from the ridgeline.

Another option is to tie a slippery half-hitch on the line lock after setting.
Also make sure you are using the right end of the line coming through the line lock. If not it will slip.
Many ways to tie out a tarp so try things out.

I use a .175 lash it soft shackles/prusik on a CRL that connects to the split rings on a WB superfly. The WB has very lightweight grosgrain, so I use the existing split ring. If the cordage the soft shackle is made from is not abrasive, or the Hammock Gear tarp has more substantial webbing, I would try it. You could probably leave the lineloc on there while experimenting. My experience with lineloc tensioners is they require the proper diameter cordage.

For the line locks (linelocs?), using the slippery half-hitch like Shug suggested works really well. It's easy to do, and quick to take apart. I think the soft shackle would work fine too, but honestly, seems like it would be more fiddly than just using the line locks.

I'm going to guess that you're using a split ridgeline? I use linelocs on one of my tarps but not on the ridgeline. On the ridgeline I have soft shackles hooked into prussics on a continuous ridgeline.
So I see no reason to not use them on either type.

2mm Lawson cord works very well with Lineloc3 hardware. Not to say Zing-It doesn't, but a less slippery cord may help with your issue.

The reflective cord Hammock Gear offers is either actual Lawson cord or just very, very similar to it.

yes, but i wouldn't use a normal softshackle for this (it is "the wrong tool for the job(tm)").

if you want to keep the same functionality as the linelocs, but without the slippage, you can have a look at this thing i was playing with a while ago, it is basically a simpler softshackle, with the tensioning features built in

I second the idea of incorporating a split ring if the grosgrain is lightweight and you decide to use a soft shackle.

Lots of ways to do this, so here is my option for tarps.

    Easy Grab Cord Ends

    with

    Florescent Green Reflective Shock Cord

The shock cord and Ti hooks are Larks-headed on the tarp.

Tarp stays clean with no hardware on it, and the little Titanium clips store on the stakes with 15-feet of Zing-It.

    Keeps things tidy.

I avoid line/fabric on line/fabric when I can. Split rings are lightweight with no sharp edges. The cheaper kinds can act like fuses - they will bend/deform long before applied forces harm the tarp.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
