POSSIBLE YEAR END HANG UWARRIES NC

All three of these camps will have water and are about two mile hike

    Spencer Creek Bridge

    Beech Camp

    Diane Woodell’s Grave

There are plenty of other camps, but, this far out in time—do not know water availability in other campsites.

Camping at Diane Woodell’s Grave and Poison Fork Creek at Uwharrie Trail is good—only downside is hammocks would be dispersed and there is not an established fire ring

Edit: TomTom knows location of fire ring

Probably will be cold weather, and backpacks will have more weight than summertime.
A longer hike could be much harder for those of us who are old and out of shape.

Fortunately for me, I’ve subscribed to videos by a Brazilian jungle couple who exercise daily, drink clear spring water and eat natural foods.
Believe it or not, just by watching their videos, I’ve maintained top physical condition while lounging in my hammock.

Im thinking along poison fork creek or Spencer bridge just due to the water availability. We need water for our coffee I am also open to suggestions.

If y'all are up for one more, I can definitely get a pass from the family to camp either the 29th or 30th.

You are invited to join us. I’ve camped with most but not all in our group. A good group.

POSSIBLE YEAR END HANG UWARRIES NC

Google Maps Jumping Off Rock Trailhead, Flint Hill Road, Troy NC

I use AllTrailsPro, might be called AllTrails+
    Jumping Off Rock Trailhead
    Uwharrie Trail, Troy NC
Download this trail at home when you have WiFi
Then before you leave home, bring up trail on your phone and DO NOT DELETE
Because there is not much cell service at trailhead
But once it is on your phone at home and in use, AllTrails will always show you exactly where you are in real time

From parking lot facing Flint Hill Road
Walk to road and cross road
Turn left and walk along shoulder of road
You will cross a bridge over a creek (within sight of parking lot)
You will see within about 50 yards a sign for Uwharrie Trail going off to right and up the hill

    You could go this way
But I don’t, I continue walking on shoulder of road 3/10 of a mile
Just before the second bridge (Poison Fork Creek)
Turn right at a cross bar onto Poison Fork Road, it is a trail or forest road that you could get a rugged vehicle through
Poison Fork Road Road parallels Poison Fork Creek,
all way to intersection with Uwharrie Trail just short of its crossing Poison Fork Creek.
If instead of turning on Uwharrie Trail, you cross Uwharrie Trail and follow a small trail about 75 yards to Diane Woodell’s Grave.
I will camp in vicinity of her grave, but not on top of it.
Diane Woodell’s Grave is marked on AllTrailsPro app

If you get lost, it’s your fault
The Poison Fork Road route is flat as a pancake
The Uwharrie Trail route is rather steep!

If you get to Diane Woodell’s Grave in the dark and do not see us, holler out and we will holler back.
If you hear Diane Woodell, at least you are in the right place.

Creek has lots of good water, in spite of its name, probably from old gold mining days.

Total 30 minutes backpacking on Poison Fork Road route
Maybe a few more minutes if you choose to hike in using only Uwharrie Trail

Possibly some of us will hike in together Friday, and another group hike in together Saturday

You can also private message any of us to synchronize meeting at trailhead parking lot!
EDIT Begin hiking Friday afternoon around 400pm

    Weather forecast is perfect!
