Winter Tarps

Can anyone recommend some tarps that will specifically stand up to winter weather? I'm from Michigan if that helps.

I think the most popular ones are the ones from these venders, Warbonnet Superfly, SLD Winter Haven, and Hammock Gear Journey.

so something like heavy duty poly ones wouldn't work even as a cheap alternative for now?

The link you sent for heavy duty poly tarps are links to tarps for covering things, not people in a camping situation. Having said that, there are plenty of ways of using those kinds of tarps in bushcraft type of situations that would work in winter. If you're looking for something purpose-built for hammock hanging, I wouldn't start with these, but if your budget is tight, they might work for a few times out until you see what you really need.

For winter in Michigan I would want a tarp with "doors", extra fabric on the ends which can be sealed up to block the wind. Many people have used poly tarps to start, but I wouldn't want to count on it during a snow storm.

Depending on how tight your budget is this is an alternative that I've used for a few years, the only downfall I've experienced is that it's silnylon instead of silpoly and does the slight sag when wet that needs to be adjusted out.

I'm not the right guy for holding people back . . . so if my little "push" helped you and them out then I'm doing good.

As soon as I can get to the PO I'll be pitching that in place of the Onewind that I have up and test it out. We are having a bit of humidity which is the only time we get winter dew and I'd like to see how it's different from silnylon.
Oh, and I also got their zip-on bugnet hammock, just to test out zip-ons and see if I like them.
