Fonts not rendering correctly see ° for degree

Is just my browser and OS (Mac Ventura and Brave) or are others seeing the same thing - that multi-key font characters are not showing up correctly?

For example, if I type 30 degrees as 30°, I see the little circle. but as soon as I post it, it turns to what you see here: 30°

For me, this is most prevalent in the For Sale sub-forum where prices are listed.

It didn't used to be that way. I've looked at the page with Safari and FireFox and they all show the same thing.

Is this a system issue on my side or has something changed on the website side? I believe I emailed a moderator about this but never heard back.

Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I use Alt Codes all the time. They always display correctly for me on here. I don't use Tapatalk, if that matters.

Ones I use on the job all the time...

    ° (Alt + 0 1 7 6)
    ± (Alt + 0 1 7 7)
    ² (Alt + 0 1 7 8)
    Ø (Alt + 0 2 1 6)

Just reusing this post to try things on a different desktop and/or browser.
Degree symbol test ((shift option 8) 30° - looks good when I type it in. Now to save and view.

Another try with UTF-8 encoding specified. 30° - again, it looks good when I type it in. Now to Save. Nope - still renders as 30Â(degree symbol). Try again. 30°

test 30ÃÃâ€*’Ãâ€*â€â„ ¢ÃƒÆ’¢â‚ ¬Ãƒâ€¦Ã‚¡ÃƒÃâ€*’à¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…¡Ãƒâ€š °. Nope - I changed Safari (I usually use Brave) to UniCode-8 and it still doesn't render correctly once I submit the text. More digging is necessary.

    Yikes!

The bottom one doesn't even have the correct character. Going down the line, the ones I posted were "degrees," "plus/minus," "squared," and "diameter."

I'm on a mac (still running Monterey and using safari) but here's a test: 30˚ (using option + k for the degree symbol).

For a point of reference, see the screenshot attached. When cmc4free posted a list of alt codes, they all displayed properly in their post, however when you quoted them, they were all garbled. That makes me think it's possibly something on your browser/computer end.

(Edit to add that when I post this and view it, I correctly see 30 with the degree sign afterwards)

I agree this is likely specific to cougarmeat's computer or browser, because I've typed ° on here using the Alt Codes for ages and never heard of the issue before, nor has it been garbled whenever my posts have been quoted by others.

@cougarmeat, do you ever view the forum on a cell phone? same there?
