Hello from South Carolina

Hey everyone! I'm a college student and have loved the outdoors my whole life. Never got more than a few hours of sleep in a tent but the first time I tried a hammock I knew I could never even be paid to go back to the ground. I just have a cheap double hammock from amazon that I've spent about a dozen nights in, but I have experience sewing so I'm thinking I might give a shot at making my own. Took my first camping trip of the year this past weekend and now I'm addicted to hammock camping, so I discovered this forum. It changed my world when I realized how to sleep on a diagonal. But my plan is to hike the AT the spring after I graduate so I'm here to learn all I can about hammocks.

The DIY forum has great information and plans for building your own. It might be in the members only section, i don't remember, but its definitely worth the small investment to join.
They also have info on building a tarp.

Get to a group hang- the people are great and you get to see so many different ways to do things.

Ok thanks I checked it out. There’s some great DIY ideas but I’m honestly a little overwhelmed with all the option.

This rabbit hole is a deep one. Making your own gear isn’t for everyone but it certainly teaches you the mechanics of hammocks and it will help you troubleshoot your system on the trail.
