The REM Hammock - experiences anyone?

    Hi!

Looking for an entry level hammock to dial in future 'investments' with. Found Hanging High Hammocks REM Hammock that seems reasonable at a first glance. I am 6'1" so 11' seems like a good length but there is a shortage of info on the home page for the curious. I asked, it is 54" wide - is it even worth the money? It seems to be on quite the narrow side compared to other vendors, right?

There is no info regarding fabric etc but hey, can I dial in length, width and if hammocks work w me (or I with them?) it seems worth the money. But if I can already now establish that 54" width won't cut it well... - anyone out there with hands on experience?

    Thx!

I had an 11 foot hammock that used 5 foot width before hemming channels.
Probably finished width might have been 58 inches.
    There was some shoulder squeeze.
A width of 54 inches seems narrow to me.
Some hammock campers who have this width might be happy….But most of our favorite vendors do not sell that narrow width hammock—unless specified by customer.

    54 too narrow…probably!

For an entry level I'd suggest either of these

    https://simplylightdesigns.com/colle...ts/streamliner

    https://simplylightdesigns.com/colle...ts/the-starter

Email or call Jared, he'll make sure you get what you need. And quick too!

I was actually aiming for a Trail Lair until I posted this

The price goes up with quite the basic config of the streamliner (but it has interesting design features!), the Starter is a cheaper option but still it defeats the purpose somehow, the REM adds a bugnet for 20 bucks less. If it wasn't for those pesky few last inches.

Cheapskate? Yes, when it is all about finding out if I sleep well enough in a hammock to take the leap of fate (from the ground). After that I am happy to pour money over Jared.
(I am still grinding my teeth for missing out on that flash sale on DW, couple of hours earlier only... )

Just get one of them Ridge Outdoor Gear hammocks...the Pinnacle 360 was always a decent Amazon choice. Buddy of mine has one, it's a good hammock on its own...the rest of the gear that came with is fine, just heavy/bulky. He swapped the CLs and suspension with whoopies.

They have a netless one, the Half Moon: https://www.amazon.com/Lay-Flat-Stru...3786703&sr=8-2

One caveat though...I'm not sure if they're still in a business, because there are only 2 left of this hammock and I don't see the Pinnacle 180 or 360 available any longer.

    Could go this route too

    https://hammockgear.com/circadian/

Made in USA from a vendor that's been around a while. Save 10% by signing up for their emails. If ya decide it ain't for you there's resale value same as any other cottage vendor. The amazon cheapie not so much

Actually have that one in my sight, just need a decent bugnet now.

Also looking at this. Not proper 11' but 10.4, as a compensation it is 79" wide which might cover enough of the missing length to find my bearings - ie does hammock work for me?

It is 37$, no resale value, works ta have in the backyard or pay it fwd to someone who wants to try it out themselves.

you have to be carefull with those measurements on hammocks on amazon, some of them include the continuous loop with the length of the hammock makig the hammock itself even shorter

Good call @soul embrace! Will definitely go through reviews/post questions on that point. Buying cheap can be expensive, thanks for the reminder.
