    BWCA Two Night Recommendation

After a successful trip around Snowbank/Disappointment on foot last year I've been thinking it might be nice to try a canoe trip into the BWCA. Was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a shorter two day trip (loop, lollipop, or just out and back) and an outfitter. For this initial foray the focus is just getting my feet wet (so to speak... mostly) so looking for a relaxed pace of travel and not huge portages. Any favorite quick trips? Or maybe a strenuous one night that could be broken down?

I’ve gone in on Sawbill before, a couple of times. There is an outfitter right there, as well as a campground for the night before. The outfitter has a variety of appropriate canoes for rent. (17 footer? Sure. 15 footer? Yup. Need the map? Ok. Want a whole package including food? We can do that. Just need a place to put the canoe in and go? Park over there.) They know what they are doing, so you don’t have to. There are a number of really nice campsites on Sawbill, which is a big lake, as well as portages to take you most anywhere you want to go in the BWCA. Their website is sawbill.com .

If you go out of Ely we use Voyager North outfitters for night before lodging and canoe rentals. I think a moose lake entry would work for what you’re looking for. You can either paddle or get a tow from outfitter and get to either Ensign lake or Knife lake. Both are easy portaging but ensign is basically 1 -30 rod and 1 up and over to get to. It is also an easy permit to get.
If you want to go out of Grand Marias I use Rockwood outfitters. If you can get a Lizz lake permit it’s easy portaging to Caribou,Horseshoe or Meeds lakes.

Out of Gunflint, I used Tuscarora Lodge. They have bunks for the night before or after and offer a delicious whole grain french toast with fruit for breakfast. They are full outfitters and can help you plan your trip, get a fishing license, anything you need.
The BWCA is a magical place!

Shug had done a trip on the Little Indian Sioux River and has a video. I did that same loop recently and it was very relaxing with great trees to hang from.
