HG DCF standard tarp with doors.. guyline question

Good morning all, apologies if this was covered in another post. I searched pretty thoroughly and found endless information on tarp guylines, shock cord vs. no shock cord, zing it vs. glowire, etc … I’m still constantly battling back and forth between all of these … here’s my question: I’ve decided to go with 2.5mm glowire for my tarp tie outs due to the fact that I got the HG dcf tarp with lineloc 3s and the zing it kept slipping. IF I decide to run 3/32” shock cord LOOPS, is it okay to attach the shock cord to my stakes? I’ve always attached it to the tarp D rings, but, obviously I don’t have those … ridgeline is still beasty Ds, this only applies to the corners.

I don't see how it makes a difference which end of the line the shock cord would be on. depending on which stakes you're using and how you're attaching shock cord to it you might need to take measures to prevent it from slipping off when it stretches but that's about all I can think of

You could obviously larkshead the shock cord to the grosgrain loop on the fly if you wanted...

Tell me about those small side-release connectors in the first pic.

I suppose it might make the pitch look prettier. But the point of shock-cord on the edge guy point was because fabric like SilNylon, and to a lesser extent SilPoly, can stretch when wet. That ruins your taut pitch. The shock cord continues the "tug" as the fabric stretches.

But DCF doesn't stretch. If you pitch it taut, it will stay taut - as long as your ground anchors don't move or the line slips in your line locks (if you use them). But you can make sure your guy line anchors are solid and you can put a backup half-hitch on the guyline lock.

That said, I like some bungee not so much for the tautness, but because in a storm it allows the tarp to deform, spilling a little wind, and then bounce back. And the tarp has a little more give if someone trips and pushes into it.

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Very good point. The Side release buckles are used for my door mods. I got it from adventure Alan’s website. Here’s the link

I understand the no stretch aspect of it. Always used shock cord with Dutch’s Fleaz on my xenon bonded tarp. Just worried about tearing, allowing a little give and deformity as you stated. I just wonder what role the shock cord is really playing, because to get a proper pitch in the DCF, even with a small, around 4” 3/32” shock cord loop, it takes a decent amount of tightening to get the majority of the slack out of the tarp. At that point the shock cord seems more like a static line, with tops 10-15% stretch
