Thank you Chappy—You saved my life.
A wasp or hornet got inside my pants and became trapped, stinging my buttocks. I had an allergic reaction that was life threatening.
Labored rapid breathing, elevated heart rate, both palms swollen red and itching, clear mucus flowing from both nostrils. Chappy a professional fireman and EMT carried a medical first aid kit in his backpack. Without Benadryl pills he gave me—I might have died!
If I’d gotten worse, Chappy said a hiker extraction would be required.
By the next day, I was well enough to tell a few stories for everyone around camp to endure.
    I am good as new.

Thank you Chappy for keeping me in this world for a while more. I think there are a few more stories yall haven’t heard twice.

It was a great backpacking hang with a perfect number of campers. There were five of us Friday night, seven if we count Lenny&Indy as hammock campers. They were a welcome addition to our campfire.

Saturday, we lost two and gained one—work and family schedules!
Then Saturday night after hiker midnight, we lost three more—due to heat. Just think how hot you’d get if your body had no sweat glands and you had to wear a fur coat and couldn’t take it off!

Our conversations were on hammock gear, old and new, as well as exploring our known universe and beyond.

    I thank you all!

PG - You gave us a good/bad scare and I'm still trying to forget the sting sight vision/observation

You also gave us a good hike in, campsite, stories and overall good time together again.
We were blessed to have (firefighter/first responder Chappy) Tim with us to assist, treat and monitor vitals etc.

I'm also glad we didn't have to drag you up the hill with a team of 2 dogs, a twistty-tomtom and Chappy-Moose dog sled team to meet another rescue team. Glad you are feeling better my friend and it turned out positive.
    Until our next adventure.

Sorry to have missed meeting Chappy and Mooseman — Phantom looked fine by the time I got there Saturday afternoon (and yes, it was pretty hot). I had a great time with PG, TomTom, and Twisty (plus the very sweet dogs), and I hope he was able to get the dogs cooled off once they got back to the car last night. I was certainly appreciating my AC for the drive home from Wood Run. Wood Run to Fat Man’s came out to 5.2/5.3 miles more or less, btw.

Didn’t know about stinger. I thought bees leave stingers and hornets, wasps, and yellow jackets don’t.
Gonna pack Benadryl from now on.
    I’m lucky to be alive!

Sounds an awful bit like that old joke where the punchline is, “The doctor said you’re not going to make it. “
    Glad you are okay PG.

Glad y'all had a great time. A few of us had already planned a backpacking trip to the high country, Mt Rogers Area. It was a little warm there. I know it was for you guys.
    Thanks for being prepared Chappy.
Hickery, also a paramedic and fire fighter, had suggested that I carry chewable Benadryl because they get into your blood system quicker. So now I carry both pills and chewable.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Thanks for organizing PG. Except for your allergic reaction scare and the warm temps we had a great time. Great to connect with Phantom, Moose, Chappy, tom-tom, and Roger (I think we owe him a trail name?). There were some razor wits amongst the Fri evening gang. And I enjoyed meeting Roger and hearing about all the great things he’s doing with the Scouts. Introduce them early and hope the passion for outdoors and critical thinking keeps them on the right path.

Lenny and Indy intend to return again, but probably when the cooler temps return.
