    The resistance of Kevlar® to hydrolysis in saturated steam is measured ina sealed tube ("bomb") test. Kevlar® yarn (1,500 denier) in a skein formis held at 280°F (138°C) for various lengths of time in the presenceof sufficient water (pH 7) to form saturated steam. The strength lossresults are determined by comparing strength data measured at roomtemperature for control and exposed yarns (Figure 2.2).
