putting the quilt back in underquilt.

Over the years of gear making i have acquired many odds and ends of fabric from gear i have made for myself and others. i recently made this quilted underquilt using these scraps and a few other things. The insulation i believe was 3.6oz climashield maybe 5oz i had pulled out of an old project that did not work as well as expected. I did the quilting by sewing the individual pieces onto a seperate piece of nylon.[AIMG]KIMG0590.jpg[/AIMG] Toward the end i started gluing them in place with a few dots of fabric glue, then sewing. this worked better as i could arrange a bunch of pieces then sew them all at once. After i got the quilt done iI thought i also needed a matching hammock so i decided to do a new one with a quilted bugnet. I had scraps of 5 different colored nets to mix. To do this i cut out a different bug net of the same size and laid it out on the floor. Then just kept covering it with my quilted net sewing together patches till i covered the pattern.KIMG0638 (1).jpg Then i decided i needed to make a quilted bag for my quilted quilt.KIMG0740.jpg finished projects KIMG0593.jpg KIMG0686.jpg KIMG0679.jpg KIMG0608.jpg

That’s an awesome idea. You should make a top quilt the same way.

Ooooo! I dabble in fiber arts. So I greatly appreciate the artistic value of this - and with such a unique medium.

I also love history and see the WWII motto “Make do and mend” reflected in this project. It also harkens back to the original purpose of quilts; before they became an expensive art form, they were practical, frugal, and useful items.

    Great job!

Totally suits your style lonetracker. Makes me think of Appalachia. I visited the quilt museum there and was drawn into the beauty and style of patchwork.

Cool project-you've made a lot of gear over the years to have that many scraps. It's satisfying to make something out of what others would throw away.

Nice job using up all of what you had around, but above all, it is a superb combination of function and style! You oughta be proud!

Love the idea! Now you've gone and got my brain cells firing. Finally, something to do with all those scraps and remnants besides making an infinite number of single panel stuff sacks.
