Greetings, programs. Name is Steve, in Eastern PA USA. I'm a scouter with three kids, and we got our oldest a hammock a few years ago when some of his scout friends talked about them, and then I picked one up shortly after (a Gold Armor "XL Double"). Recently one of my scouter friends and I were talking about them - he almost exclusively hammocks when we go on trips - and he gave me some tips and pointers which I put to use at summer camp this year. Finally spent a night in mine, and it was probably the best night's sleep I've had at camp in a long time. I'd already picked up a bug net, ridgeline organizer, and even one of those Oak Creek tarps that looks like a tent since I wanted a way to be able to get changed without balancing clothes on the edge of a latrine in camp. And finally after looking at some of Shug's videos and reading stuff here I feel like I'm getting the education I need to make smort choices in gear and be more successful without having to bring my big tent and a cot to comfortably sleep on trips. And we figured out my oldest is way too tall for the hammock we got for him now, so he's probably handing that one down to his sister or brother (both in the troop with us too) and selecting something else for him.
Looking forward to the future, and hopefully going through this entire year without "going to ground" again!
