What are your favorite dispersed/overland sites near the TN/NC border? Looking for ideas for an

So I’ve spent a lot of time on the NC/TN border in the mountains and my list of campgrounds/forest service campsites is growing larger by the day. That being said, most of them I have found through local knowledge or just exploring while on trips. I tend to prefer forest service dispersed camping areas, or forest service campgrounds as they are typically cheap/free and much less busy than your developed campgrounds like the ones in the GSMNP. Not to mention they almost always are more hammock friendly and have better local recreation than super developed spots.

I’m planning to do some day hikes and driving over a large area on an upcoming trip, starting out in the Waynesville area and hopefully finishing the trip in Roan mountain. Let’s just say we plan to pick some blueberries.

My typical go to spots for this type of trip are:
•The dispersed camping sites in Harmon Den area(cold springs creek)
    • Round Mountain campground
    •Rocky Bluff
    •Weaver’s bend

I have yet to make it out to the Linville Gorge and did consider for this trip, however I wouldn’t know where the berry patches are like I do along the Appalachian crest further west. There are some spots I’ve been returning to year after year to pick berries.

Who’s got some secrets they wanna share? ideally north of the smokies and south of Roan mountain. The closer to Tennessee the better.

Grassy ridge is one of my favorite mountains to camp on. I’ve taken countless trips up there!

Looking more for car camping spots this time. We’ve car camped once at the yellow mountain gap/OVT trailhead but it was a bit sketchy.

How does one hang around Grassy Ridge? Best I remember, it had some straggly bushes - no full-fledged hammock-friendly trees....
