    External tent pole mod help

Does anyone know where to start with figuring out the length for a tent pole? I’ve searched google and can’t find anything on how long the poles should be

Dutchware uses .344-inch diameter for tarp pole mods, so Amazon would be a good choice to purchase a shock corded section.

Perhaps you have an existing tarp, if so, you can measure the length of your side pull-outs or perimeter , when the tarp is laid out flat and get something around 15% longer, or go with the Amazon order and keep adding sections until you get the custom arc, which will be you doing you.

The collective here does not know what tarp, or if you have side pull outs or wish to tie into the perimeter of your tarp. Add that to this thread and you will be well on your way.

You answered my question, thank you. Measuring the distance between timeouts and adding 15% is what I was looking for. I figured there must be some formula just like adding a SL.

Be sure to let the forum know how your mod goes (with pics)! I'm interested in doing the same thing.

I'm guessing that 113.4" is for an INTERNAL pole mod. Most external pole mod lengths seem to come up around 55" plus/minus a bit. For example, three shock-corded 18" segments is 54".

The external pole length is not so critical as you are attaching to the pull-outs with another line - which can be variable, like bungee or adjustable cord.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

It is. The OP did not exactly describe what type of pole mod he is thinking. Could be over top pull out mod or internal with one tor two poles.

This is only a guess, so do not take it as an actual measurement, spend the $20 on Amazon for the poles experiment to get your actual measurement.

I have the Dutchware Wide tarp.

In the thread title it says "External" and people already had suggestions for that so I didn't reply. Then I saw people making recommendations for interior mod length and got confused. Maybe the thread title got updated?
