I can bring in some stove top stuffings and instant mashed potatoes.

I can make a cabbage roll hash (all the same ingredients but with chopped cabbage, not rolled), if people want. Unless I try dehydrating it the meat would need to come in fresh.

I think a half dozen aluminum over liners could be wired together to make a passable mega-reflector oven. We'd just have to make sure we have plenty of hardwood to feed the fire.

Lofty, first let me say how impressed I am that you’re willing to lug a whole turkey into the back country. Wow, that’s dedication!

Can I recommend that you bring a meat thermometer? It sounds like we will be experimenting a bit with the oven set up so let’s make sure we know when it’s cooked.

Chard, I can bring the meat for your cabbage dish. Ground beef I assume? 1 pack?

A thought about cooking the turkey; would it work to cook it over coals if it was ‘tented’ with oven liners? We would need another fire to continually generate fresh coals but that wouldn’t require quite as much hard wood for a 3-4 hour cook.

    Definitely gonna have a thermometer

For cooking - we could roast the whole turkey in a makeshift reflector oven ( who's bringing the tripod )
    Or
We can spatchcock it - thinking this may be the better option as it cooks faster.

While we're talking food & quantities, this would be a good time for any "lurkers" to check in if you're likely to join us.

Also ... I will send an email Monday (25th) night to those I know are attending. It will have a link to the map showing the site we settle on. If we move after that I'll send another one.

These messages need to be pre-programmed at home so if you're not on my list by next Sunday you won't get the email. (SvenGolly, please pm me your email address for this.)

Please DO NOT REPLY to these messages as my subscription only covers a few a month then bill extra.

Chef Jiblets jury-rigged a pretty good, turkey-sized reflector below.

Spatchcocking (giggle) a turkey looks interesting, but might require boltcutters or some surgical batonning.

Also, if someone is able to post an updated map indicating the "official" site for this hang to this thread once they receive KeeWayKeno or my own GPS message, that'd be great. It'd help make sure nobody is missed.

    Hi gang,

I'm afraid I'll have to miss this trip, some things have come up that will keep me in town next week.

I'm also really sorry that I'll be missing the Thanksgiving feast.

    Have fun and be safe.

There is a feast in the works - we might have to recreate it at the next hang

As for the feast on Friday night -

    I have a 13lb turkey I'm bringing in.
I'm also in the mood that I'll bring some boxed stuffing, instant potatoes and something for veggies.
since I normally pack light I can afford the extra weight

I also have my campfire bread I'm planning to make

    Lofty
