LowTech -- thanks, I was going off memory, obviously not accurate. At some point there was a good explanation on here of the different Central and South American hammock styles.

Wow Cougarmeat, that's a bit personal.

The other common CA hammock is the Nicaraguan which is pretty much like a Brazilian only it has a bunch of fancy knotting and frills hanging along the edge.

Actually, ENO markets their Double Nest as a hammock for two! Not that it's suitable for that but it is how they advertise it. They also have a spreader bar lounging hammock that looks to actually be comfortable for two but it's bulky and expensive.

We need a clever nickname for that, like calling a tandem bicycle a "divorce horse". The only couple I know to have used an ENO Doublenest on an extended trip are now, in fact, divorced.

And they drew straws and the loser had to keep the hammock...

Taking a break from hammocking (have to get that word in), Joy and I tried a Tandem Kayak during a local "Demo Days" - for 5 minutes. That was it, we much prefer our individual boats. I can clearly see some advantages of a tandem of both paddlers are matched in skill and interests; otherwise ...

I think photos of two in a GE hammock are mockups in a photo shoot for the ad campaign. It's like in a movie when you have a romantic scene with two people in a bathtub. Then you try it at home and it's all banging knees and elbows on the side of the tub with the faucet digging into someone's back - or so I imagine.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I have ground dwelling friends and they quickly ditched a double-wide air mat in favor of 2 separate single mats. Close and snuggly sounds all romantic and such, but at some point you've gotta get some sleep.
