    Newbe old guy from Ohio

I was a backpacker years ago (in the 70s) and did a lot of day hikes and vacation camping with the family when the kids were growing up. All that was with tents. Now, at 73, I find myself needing something somewhat physical to do. Why not some backpacking? As it is a lot harder getting up than getting down, A hammock seems preferable to a tent.

I am 6' tall and around 220# (hoping the hiking will take some of that off). I bought a Onewind 11 ft. with bottom entry bugnet to see if I could get in and out and if I liked sleeping in the air. I am planning to buy decent but budget quilts and tarp and am hoping you guys can guide me in the right direction on those.

I have barely skimmed some of the content here and am impressed with the shear volume. Thanks for having me, I look forward to the journey down this rabbit hole.

Welcome to the forum. Hammock gear make economy versions of their top and under quilts. They are really nice. I use my economy top quilt almost every time I go out. Enjoy the hiking! I hope I’m still out in the woods at 73!

If you go to a group hang, you will see many different sets of gear. And many times at group hangs you will meet hammock campers who backpack.

Enjoy the journey down the hole. More a badger hole than rabbit hole. But in the end, ever-so worth it.
Take heed the Hammock Learning Curve....
