    NC Spencer Creek Bridge 2023 June 2 3 4

Some will park at 109 Trailhead Troy NC, and backpack north on Uwharrie Trail about 2 miles to Spencer Creek Bridge.

Some will park at West Morris Mountain Campground, Troy NC, at trailhead parking.
Take spur trail at top of parking area, passing metal bar across spur trail. About 150 yards you will see private property and no trespassing signs—that is also where you will see an arrow sign pointing to right turn on spur trail. When get to Uwharrie Trail signs, go south on Uwharrie Trail about a mile total to Spencer Creek Bridge.

AllTrails navigation app can help, if you’ve not been there before

I might begin at West Morris Mountain Campground, Troy NC Friday afternoon around 400pm

All meals are “Ever man fur hisself”

    Google Maps
    West Morris Mountain Campground
    Ophir Road Troy NC

    Or
    109 Trailhead Uwharrie

    I use AllTrailsPro or Plus?
Select trails at home while on WiFi
    Download selected trails onto phone

Spencer Creek Bridge is marked on trail app

    Or
    Yates Place Campground Troy NC
Spur trail from Yates to Uwharrie Trail
Turn right on Uwharrie Trail going north
This route is five miles to Spencer Creek Bridge

Is Spencer Creek bridge to the east or west of Ophir Rd? I have a doctor's appointment on Friday but may try to show up on Saturday if the weather is decent. It's been far too long since I've enjoyed the company of hammock sages.
I had what is called "long covid" from April to about two months ago. I'm still quite weak, but getting slowly stronger and a mile hike should be about the right challenge.

    West Morris Mountain Campground
    648 Ophir Road #600
    Troy NC

Ophir Road branches off of NC 109
About two or three miles out, you will see a sign for West Morris Mountain Campground—turn right onto that road
Easy to miss the trailhead parking pullout that is on your left going in. That’s ok if you miss it, the little road that goes through campground with numbered campsites—loops around sending you back out.
On way out the trailhead parking lot will now be on your right.

My directions might not get you there
Google Maps or Waze navigation apps will get you to parking lot

When hiking, switch off car navigation apps and switch on AllTrailsPro or another hiking app
Match that app with directions at start of this thread

Download West Morris Campground Troy NC into your phone at home on WiFi using AllTrails or other trail app. That will have Uwharrie spur trail and Uwharrie Trail and it shows Spencer Creek and Spencer Creek Bridge on your trail map app, as it crosses Uwharrie Trail

Have it all on your phone before leaving home.
Your app will work even on trail with no cell service
But you probably can’t download trail onto your phone at Campground

Go up yonder, jest past where Johnson’s dog got runned over, then you cut and you keep cutting—You Kant Miss It!

I should be able to find it. I did download and sign up for AllTrails +, and right away realized I would have gone in the opposite direction.
One other question - is there pottable water there, or is a "boil it" situation, or is it best to schlep water in?

I filter water at campsite from Spencer Creek
Coffee water is heated, sometimes to a boil or a bit less. Then I pour some filtered water into coffee mug to cool it down some.
Probably not best, but it’s worked so far.

I maybe there tomorrow late in the day, but more likely on Saturday in the early afternoon. It is taking me forever to get my gear sorted, after a few years off.

Excellent! I've been at it 14 years and am still a newbie.
