I am brand new to Hammock camping, don't even have any gear, but I want to try it. It is my hope to do a group hang and rent some gear to see if it works for me. Please let me know if you know where/how to rent gear and if you are interested in create a hang. Maybe a Ricketts Glenn thing.

I don't know about renting hammock gear; but if we get some folks together for a hang, there's plenty of us with extra hammocks and such that will be more than happy to bring gear to let you borrow gear for a weekend to try it out.

I may or may not be one of those.

As DocTheo said, I don't think you'll be able find any vendor who rents hammocking gear.

That makes sense to me. Is there any special process to creating an event other than throwing it up and seeing who comes?

Ricketts Glen has a few group camping sites. I've hung there once and didn't have any issues with rangers. The park would probably be a pretty good location for a get together. I'm about 45 minutes away; going to follow to see how this unfolds.

@vermeire: I checked the weekend of 9/15 - 9/17 and there are a lot of sites open near each other. It may be a bit out on the calendar but I wanted to give some time for folks to join and have a lot of sites available. What do you think? Are you thinking more just walk into the woods and set up or reserve a site?

Alternatively, if you get enough people to sign up, book the group camping site. With 5-6 people or more, I believe you'd qualify as an "organized group" and can book that site for the weekend, and use that for the hang, rather than deal with trying to book adjacent individual campsites in the main loops.

Okay, I am going to take a risk and throw this out there. Wish me well.

Turn out I got out over my skiis. There is a MAHHA hang planned for the fall and that the one I was thinking of planning would have interferred.
