    Finally going to do this…

Hoping that if I write it and share this, I will actually get it done this year.

Goal is to climb three of the 100 great mountains of Japan in the Southern Alps: Kitadake, Ainodake, and Shiomidake

    https://www.komoot.com/tour/1113167188?ref=itd

    Plan so far…
    1. Get in condition
    2. One night hang to get reacquainted with my hammock and test the Tensa trekking pole
    Planned for end of May
    3. Another one night hang to shakedown my gear in semi-Alpine environment with a full load in June
Went here last week and it had good elevation profile with a spicy climb near the end

    4. Do the Southern Alps route in July-Aug

Drop me a line if there’s anyone in Japan who’s interested. Kind of intimidating doing this one alone.

Good for you! I hope the weather is in your favor. I'll be looking forward to seeing your sunrise pictures of Mount Fuji!

That's awesome. If you're a climber, bring a few extra camming options; without trees there may be opportunities for a rock on one end and the Tensa on the other. Good luck in meeting your goals!

Making this into a journal to hopefully make this goal a reality

    Course laid out: https://www.komoot.com/tour/11325332...CxCpMtN5pHaP2y
Just need to find out how to actually travel to location (Hatanagi Dam #1).

    1. Started conditioning with 6kg on 6/10 and will move up to 10kg shortly.

    2. Gave up on the Tensa Treez after recent 2-day camp. Lost the tightening nut holding the handle and could not get one of the anchor points to hold. Will bring an inflatable pad, thinking to change hex tarp to square tarp and bring at least one trekking pole. Will also bring my half-wit, straps, 3/4 Summer UQ and 20* TQ.

    3. Still planning another camp to determine final fitness and gear selection in July

Epic hiking goals you have there! I've never hiked outside the US, would like to someday. Looks like you'll be emersed in some amazing landscapes. I wish you good luck on your endeavours!

Good news: I scheduled my trip in two weeks

Bad news: Daughter got Covid but she got it five days ago in Canada and is back home.

    Here’s hoping she’s less contagious…

Thanks Charlotte, I did not catch the bug and daughter is fully recovered. But I now have to worry about a typhoon in the area. Might have to delay a couple of days and let it pass and hope the trails and campsites are ok, that’s assuming I can move my dates…
