    Evo Loop Construction

My Evo Loop purchased from Jeff Meyers continues to do its job with aging Kevlar straps, but am always looking for backup options.

Before ordering from Jeff I attempted to make my own set of Evo Loops but couldn't quite make it to the finish line. This morning, I randomly found this webpage detailing a potential button knot.

Would this work? If not, is there a best link for constructing an Evo Loop?

I think Myers has a tutorial vid on making the button knot. I personally made a bunch of his style "Fast Shackles" that only require a double overhand knot. I use them for almost every suspension connection.

I tried following his instructions for a button knot and failed miserably. When I can't figure out something after 4-5 attempts, I give up. I'm not a knot tyer to begin with, but could certainly use some DIY Evo loops. If anyone finds a better tutorial, let me know.

Iceman, I’ve failed to tie Chinese button knot.
Shaw can tie Chinese button knot. He might be at Yates this fall
I can tie diamond knot. I’ll show you step by step.
Also in my YouTube video is Phantom Grapplers Recommended Ties part 1 and part 2. Somewhere in there is step by step of diamond knot
I believe you can substitute diamond knot for Chinese button knot
I was embarrassed, after Shaw showed me how to tie Chinese button knot, walked me through it once or twice—then I couldn’t tie it again

    Phantom Grappler,

Every time I tie a button knot, I have to watch a video; every time. I'm sorry I don't have a ready link for you. I just google "YouTube Button knot" and stuff comes up. There are definitely different degrees of clarity in explanation. And if it's just a Knob to hold a loop, there's a video in the soft shackle theme showing an oversized overhand knot (with buried Amsteel) that does the trick as well.

With summer just a month (or so) away, it's time to put EVO loops on more of my straps. So I'll be looking those instructions up again (and again, and again).
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I love Jeff Meyers' videos, but I also struggled with button knot construction until I watched the below video made by a guy who uses knots in sailing:

I think using different colored larger line helps me visualize it better. I also cut my lengths a few inches longer than Jeff Meyers recommends, and it give me more room to work. If necessary, I just cut off the tails before they get buried.

    ^^^^^This!

The button knot is purdy but any big knot that can be captured by the loop portion is good enough. Many simpler knots are actually larger than the finished button knot and will work fine.

When I first got into making Evo loops I got to the point that I could tie the button knot without a 'cheat sheet' but after a few weeks my muscle memory faded and I couldn't tie one now if my life depended on it. But what's cool about the button knot is that the tails are tucked inside and no raggedy ends are flailing in the breeze.

Ended up making 2 new Evo Loop sets with cord permanently attached to the tree straps. They looked pretty good, but I placed a single overhand knot in back of the button just in case. It gave the loops a really robust look.
