Is this a new UQ?
Yes, bought it couple months ago and used it on two short trips.
Guys, remember that when talking about domestic clothes dryers to Europeans you are talking about larger devices than we are used to. Most European dryers/washing machines/dishwashers/etc are designed and sized to fit under kitchen worktops, i.e. ours is 600mm wide, 600mm deep and 860mm high ( roughly 2' x 2' x 2' 10"). They are optimised to dry clothes in an energy efficient way (kinda their point - there might be a clue in the name) rather than dry down goods or similar. Ours also has just two heat settings: hot and not quite so hot
Down jackets you could probably dry in a European style dryer if you had one that had a very low heat setting, for sleeping bags, quilts and the like we tend to head to the laundromat and use the commercial dryers there.
Socio-economic rant over Sounds like the down's clumped up due to very heavy condensation. First thing I'd try is to let it dry in the house - hang it unpacked somewhere warm. Then just try hand tossing it to see if you can break up the clumps, no need to go silly, just play keepie-uppie with it. Finally if that doesn't sort things shove it in a dryer (home or commercial) on low, low heat with some tennis balls or old trainers (sneakers). Then follow Shug's video on migrating the down back into place.
An under-quilt protector would be a good investment for those conditions in the future, basically it's acting as a sacrificial layer for the condensation to form on.
Better weight than wisdom, a traveller cannot carry - Viking proverb
I usually lay my quilts on the couch and have a dehumidifier shoot dry air towards it. I'm kind of worried about tumbling the quilts in the dryer.
