Got to attend the Winter Camping Symposium this year and camp out for a few days.

Didnt do much besides make this pair of Ojibwe style snowshoes. Got to put a few more coats of varnish on them and they'll be ready for this winter!

Nice snowshoes! You made those??? Wow, really nice. I inherited a pair from my grandparents that I need to re-varnish. I should get on that.

Yeah! Was a fun project. Hopefully I'll get them varnished soon and I can use them a bunch this winter.

The instructor just recommended your typical spar varnish and said you could brush it on with a natural hair brush or into a custom made dip tank.

Thanks for the varnish recommendation. I would have used something probably inappropriate and in a spray can.

Finally starting to catch up on video trip reports for the past year. This one was February in the Roans. Mostly just mountain views but did a little talking too…enjoy!

Not sure how to embed here so the link is below.

Some great views BlazeyJ! I've got friends out West so I always think of all of our mountains being out that way, totally forgetting there are some awesome ranges out East.

First hang with my 9 year old - Shenandoah National Park 10-2023

First time out in the backcountry (Shenandoah National Park) hammock camping with my nine year old. Found a spot to hang side by side, with 2 tarps rigged together to give us lots of coverage. It did rain and we stayed dry, but the gray tarp did collect some rainwater on top of it, I needed a better angle I suppose.

Night one I put the kiddo on a pad, inside his sleeping bag. Night two he wanted to try the underquilt so I rigged up my Ridgerunner underquilt to his gathered end and I took the pad. Long story short, we both prefer the underquilt!

Highlight of the trip was successfully summiting Old Rag before the rain came down and also spotting a great blue heron on the hike out.

    Happy Trails.

Old Rag is such a cool peak. Heard there’s a pretty weird permit system now though? Glad ya got up there regardless. Pad inside the double layer RR isn’t too bad but always cold shoulders, agreed that UQ is superior for it

I love hearing stories about people getting their littles out! Start them young and they grow up loving it.
