Hiking the Uintas 80 mile skyline trail is on our bucket list. That's interesting how it's one of the few east to west running mountain ranges in the country. They look awesome on Google Earth.
Have you taken trips higher up in the tundra when the snows melted ? The abundance of alpine lakes and high passes look gorgeous. Only downside I've read about is that the biting flies and mosquitos are wicked during the summer.
We went on a couple of overnighters the last two weekends. First we went on the Benton MacKaye Trail in the Big Frog / Cohutta wilderness with another couple. Pretty easy hike through lots of ferns and streams, about 8 mile overall out and back.
Found a really nice campsite by a stream with plenty of room for hammocks. I slept in my WBBB and set up a grand trunk ultralight for our friends to use and relax in.
Last hike was just the wife and myself. We hiked the Bartram Trail along the Trimont Ridge to Wayah Bald, NC, in the Nantahala N.F. camped at 5000' in our new zpacks tent. Brought the GTUL along for a relaxing seat while having dinner and breakfast. Even in the summer you still get some really nice open views on the eastern slope of Wayah. It was about an 8 mile total out and back, and the elevation gain on this one was, I think 1500' over 3 miles , which for our out of shape butts was quite a doozy.. but we're stronger now because of it and eager for more!
I'm at work on my phone and it's not letting me add pictures. Give me a minute to figure this out..IMG_20230529_095740528.jpg forgive me, i've been out of the forum world for awhile.
