Besides, Zing-it and Lash-it don't melt. They, and other UHMWP items, degrade when heated. I splice the ends back in or just tie a stopper knot... Excuse me while I go look at my tarp lines to see if I'm telling the truth.... Oh, never mind. I don't do anything to the cut ends. They don't unravel. These tarp lines have seen lots of use over the past 5 years. Tsshaw78 is right about the lack of stored energy in the braid, but you can just them cut with a sharp knife.) Melt bungee ends, though.

Not sure of your procedure for cutting it. If you are forming a loop and then inserting a knife in the loop and pulling, it will most likely tend to unravel...especially if your knife is not sharp. And if you cut shock cord like this, it is definitely going to end up in a mess. I like to lay the cord flat on a resilient surface like wood, and then with a good, SHARP knife, cut straight down. This results in a good square cut that is ready for burning.

Note that both of the preceding methods contain that all important adjective "SHARP"!
