    Hi Everyone!

    Hi!

I am a long time avid camper, hiker, and backpacker. We have several hammocks and I have spent a few nights in them, but I have never used it as my main sleep system. I looking forward to making that happen! Here to learn and get started.

Any suggestions for double hammocks? Is it even feasible to sleep two all night?

Two separate hammocks side by side under one large tarp—Yes

Two people in one hammock, might be ok for brief lounging, but very uncomfortable for overnight sleep—No

Welcome! You'll find lots of info on how to make a night in a hammock outdoors be your best sleep ever. As far as double sleeping, I think it's been decided that hanging right next to one another is preferable to sharing a hammock. On wide trees, you can hang off of either side of the tree. With three trees, you can share one end tree. Dutchware has coupling bars, double bug nets, and double tarps to facilitate co sleeping.

Have a great time exploring your options.

Welcome! Always nice to see more WA folks

I rather like two-person hammocking, especially if it is cold out. The ENO DoubleNest Deluxe has done me fine, but I haven't tried any others. Do be sure to spend plenty of time in the daylight figuring out different positions, how to get in and out, etc.

Recently I had a two-player hammock experience and the other person didn't like the lack of being able to move without moving the other person so we'll be trying the side-by-side separate slings next time.

Welcome to the party! I know this is probably too much of a last-minute option, but for hanging two people side by side there is a new option from YOBO gear (YOBOGear - Worlds Most Versatile Hammock Stands - Home) called the Hive stand. They are doing a Kickstarter for it (Hive Hammock Stand by YOBOgear — Kickstarter), but I believe the last day is tomorrow so you may not be able to grab one at the heavily discounted price.

As others have mentioned, there are other ways to do this using trees as the primary hanging option, such as the one from Dutchware gear (Double Hammock Whoopie Hook Suspension | Dutchware Gear).

    Hope you enjoy the journey!

The only true double hammock is Clark - ENO and their imitators just use "double hammock" as a marketing term - you'll be suffering after 15 minutes if you try and sleep together. Dutch has ways to hang side by side, but it can be difficult to find trees that work for that.

SilvrSurfr, my bad, I did not know there was a true double hammock. Have you slept overnight in Clark double hammock, while sharing hammock with someone, or know someone who has had a good double sleep?
Also I’ve seen photos of a family in Brazil or possibly Central America using an extra wide and long hammock. I think they had five people of various sizes (mother and her kids) all laying at 90* to hammock. None of them were tall, and their heads and feet were fully within hammock fabric.

Spring has sprung, down here in Uwharries, I have to remember hammock with bugnet next campout.

I have a vertex, we like it a lot. Not always possible to find 3 trees but when you do it's quite nice. It's very stable with the 3 tree set up, still can feel your partner moving but nothing drastic and you can sleep through it.

There was some learning curve setting it up, it does have some streaching so to have my girlfriend and I level when we were both in I hung my side higher than hers.

    Pros
    - stable with 3 tree set up, span of head trees very flexible
    - built like a tank
    - very warm with quilts, no drafts
    - flexibility of temps with top cover built in and pockets to stuff more insulation
    - massive headroom
    - lots of storage

    Cons
    - heavy
    - expensive
    - you need 3 trees, can't always find that
    - a bit on the short side
    - you have to be clever to hang the tarp

I have some pics below so you can see the set up and space

I have a Clark original that I'm selling. We slept in it several times. It was very comfortable (though a little short) and allowed us to both be under the same bug net in what is basically two hammocks w/ material sewn in between to fill the rest of the space and act as a gear sling/hammock. It was loads better than two hammocks w/ spreader bars.
Finding three trees that worked is not horrible being that there is a wide range of spread that can be done w/ the head end. It has a retaining strap that prevents the separate head end suspensions from getting pulled to far apart.
The foot end is one attachment, the head is two.
We really liked the concept and construction, it just wasn't perfect for us and we don't have the room to keep things that are not going to get loads of use.
