That was a well needed rest in the Piney Woods. The weather held out for us in the Rain department and not too hot during the day. This was the fist time from 2012 to now that I was out there in any temps below 68*(5am temp). Our spot (blueskycat pics) was located on top of a little hill overlooking to ponds on either side of us. A really beautiful spot.

On Saturday, we hiked out on the Florida Trail towards Pat's Island. Just after passing the Yearling Trail, we turned right and went to the ancient Sink Hole near the Long Cemetery. It's only a half mile off of the FT and we were treated with a wonderful site deep in the ground. Yes, we did hike down to the bottom and played around a little down there. Altogether, that was an 8 mile round trip and we got back to camp while the sky was spitting down on us just a little.

At evening, the expected rain that held out for most of the day, came down... for just a few minutes. Much better than the 100% chance of rain for 7 hours predicted the day before. Gotta love FL. The temps dropping was really noticable. Hanging around the fire Sat night was a real treat having such a large fire this time of the year in Florida. And finding seasoned firewood here was really unexpected. That night it got down to 48* and my Summer Synth TQ was really put to the test.

Sunday morning was beautiful and cold(to us). That hill has a spectacular little view. We weren't in a hurry as we slowly broke camp and proceeded to hike past 2 different groups of Boy Scouts to get to the FT from camp. The trail out had quite a few animal footprints and scat from the night before and several quite fresh. Blueskycat and I got to my car about 10 minutes before the rest came out of the woods. Afterwards, we went to a restaurant for lunch to celebrate a great hang, wonderful folks in our party and new friends.

Now we start to plan our next outing and continue judging our gear choices.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Thank you Juan for putting this trip together. I had a great, relaxing time and I finally got to see the sink hole. It looked like something straight out of a Jurassic Park movie.

You're welcome. Pat's Island to Hidden Pond part of the FT has always been my favorite. That sinkhole is only 1/2 mile off of the FT. Most people miss it and don't even know it's there.

Also, we are now owners of the Hang Tight quilts. I have the 20* TQ and she has the 20* set.
