    Buried in the Catskills

Sharing a video of our latest venture into the Catskill mountains during a severe winter snow storm. The forecast was calling for 1 - 2 feet of snow. Mother Nature had other plans and dumped 2 - 3 feet of wet heavy snow on us! Not to mention there was already about 1.5 feet of existing snow already covering the mountain when we got up there.

Looks like a memorable adventure, I am more than a little envious! Gonna have to hunt myself down some of that white hot chocolate. What was the deciding factor for going with a tent versus hammock? Worry about snow falling from trees/widow makers? General warmth? Didn't want to be beating snow off a tarp versus a tent wall?

Thanks @ Adroa.. the white hot chocolate is delicious.. so is the Irish Cream one!! I have been sleeping on the ground again, so for me it was just basically that. Also, in those conditions, its nice to have a safe "home" to be in for extended long periods of time. While my hammock is so comfortable to sleep in, I would much prefer riding a snow storm like that in a tent. Yes also, trying to avoid the falling snow bombs from tree branches and with all that heavy wet snow.. actual branches and limbs cracking down. We also were originally planning to climb to to the top of the mountain where there were not many trees, so hanging was definitely out of the question.. thankfully as we hiked in, we both agreed to cut half mile or so short and camp where we did.. because getting down off that mountain in the storm with those heavy accumulations was a serious challenge for both of us.

Whoah, that's deep snow! Great to see you and your tent are tough.

The snow made it a fun trip!! Yes snowshoeing out was HARD.. but sometimes the hard (not so fun) things are what make memories!
