    Beads on whoopie slings failed

I just bought a Circadin and a couple od straps and two whoopie slings from the recent sale.
I set up my Tato stand and hung the hammock by the whoopies.
When I sat in the hammock i got a couple of pops, like .22 shells going off and something ricochet around the room...
Closer examination showed that the bead preventing the whoopie loops from being pulled into the bury had disintegrated and pieces shot around the room!
What do you suggest i use to replace these beads without having to take the whoopies apart to thread on new beads?

    Thanks!

    Beads on whoopie slings failed

If your whoopie slings in question, are otherwise performing adequately, I recommend you tie a nail knot in place of the missing beads.
The Grog Knots App shows a nail knot.
A nail knot is used to tie two lines together. But you can tie a nail knot around a length of line.

I tie a nail knot around my tarp ridgeline, to be used as a drip line to stop rain drops from traveling down my tarp ridgeline and dripping on my face, as I sleep in hammock. This nail knot is tied with shoestring, and will slide along tarp ridgeline—if and when I adjust it.
Nail knot tied similarly on whoopie sling should perform same function as beads on whoopie sling!

And if you would rather not tie nail knot, a simple overhand loop tied in place of bead will work. Overhand loop can encase whoopie sling hanging on like a ring or bracelet, in place of beads.

    Good luck!

Or just tie a small piece of shock cord through the loop. Or a key ring. And learn to be vigilant when using whoopies.

I put a small washer on mine instead of a bead when I make them.

Isn’t it possible to use whoopie slings without beads or a bead substitute? That is, if you are careful not to allow whoopie sling to invert and close loop down to nothing—getting stuck.
    I don’t know.

I avoid the problem by never using a whoopie sling!

But seriously, a bead, washer, or some piece of bling when making one, or a nail knot or split ring (or whatever) applied later, certainly is worth the weight when compared to ruining a whoopie.

I don't understand why a bead would be subjected to any force that would cause it to "explode" (?)

If it were a plastic bead that was old or had experienced temperature changes over time, then it could become very fragile and it wouldn't take much pressure to have it "disintegrate". More likely, it was simply cheap, Chinese mass production garbage. Apparently, none of us can escape entirely from the Chinese pervasion (including our trusted cottage vendors).

Virtually anything that can be clipped, threaded, or tied on and is bigger than the diameter of the cord will work as an after-the-fact bead replacement. In a pinch, you can even tie off the loose end of the whoopie through the whoopie loop.

What could possibly be a source of pressure on a bead strung on a length of amsteel? Disintegrate is one thing, having it fly apart is quite another.

I would guess that they got between the stand attachment and the cord. Like they were on the far side and got crushed once weight was applied.
