Tips on using hammock tarp as a ground shelter?

I pretty much exclusively hammock camp currently but I want to have practice with a ground setup for future trips out west. I don't want to spend the money on a new shelter when I already have a WB thunderfly and an HG standard tarp, so instead I am looking into how to pitch those for ground use. Can either of those feasibly be pitched with trekking poles for a ground shelter? and if so do y'all have any tips for a new tarp/ground camper?

I'm sure someone has written a book on the multiple ways you can pitch a tarp. An easy "pup tent" style would be to just use a trekking pole at the points where you have your tarp ridgeline attached. You wouldn't even have to run two guidelines per pole (like we do when we hang off poles) because the tarp corners staked to the ground will do most of that. Just run one line out from that point, hell you could just use your ridgeline cord if you wanted.
If it's windy and you don't want to be in a wind tunnel then put one end totally on the ground and just use a trekking pole at the head end.
    I could go on and on . . .

I bet an online search would show you loads of ways to pitch that tarp for the ground. Even DD tarps has some ways to pitch their tarps for ground illustrated.

He doesn't use hammock tarps, but Corporal's Corner has a ton of videos on making shelters with just tarps if you want to check him out. He's mainly bushcraft/survival focused, but most of your bushcraft YTubers will have a bunch of ways to pitch a tarp for a shelter. My boys and I have done a few methods to switch things up, but usually just a A-frame configuration worked best for us - mainly because a quick rain was always a factor when we did this.

Shug does have a video on going to ground which is basically what you are talking about minus the hammock being down there with you.

Here are some photos I've saved that may also give you some ideas on how to use your tarp as a shelter.

    welcome to the elevated forums

for ground tarp shelters, the best "educational" resource i found so far is, by far, papa hiker on youtube. he not only has experience, and likes to experiment, but he really understands what he's doing and how it works, and he has a very solid way of explaining things. he has a lot of videos and tarp pitches (some very uncommon and interesting), but i would suggest to start with his series about basic concepts about pitching a tarp (i'd say it is recommended for any tarp user, including for hammocks). his channel is sadly hugely underrated, so you might not have heard of it.

Here's my setup when I was demonstrating to a friend that my hammock could make a better tent than his tent could be a hammock.
I had collapsible poles but your trekking sticks would work as well. I put down a Visqeen ground sheet (to protect the therm-a-rest pad) then put down the pad (to protect the bottom of the hammock), then the hammock - a WB BlackBird. I tied the bug net shock-cord to the pole to lift it off my face and the poles also supported the tarp. Easy-Peasy.

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Like when you make a deadfall trap for small game? I'm guessing you were going after tent campers.
