I have a recently purchased DW Half-Wit but have only used it for day outings to date. I find the bug net a bit too warm in hot weather. I reverse my lay and put the bug net end at my feet when it is hot.

The Half-Wit is lightweight and compact so it is probably viable for a hammock solution.

The CDT is high elevation. The lowest elevation is 3,900 feet. The nights will be cool. You will probably need the quilt every night.
My experience is that bugs are bad around dusk and dawn when the wind drops and the sun is down. During the day the breeze is high enough to limit mosquitos. Flies can be more of a problem during daylight hours. At night it is too cold for mosquitos.

I would give some thought to what you will hang the hammock from. There are long sections of the trail that are treeless high plains in WY, CO, & NM. I would research solutions for treeless sections. Maybe just cowboy camp or ground set the hammock and tarp.

I would give some thought to handling chiggers. I find them to be a problem in the high plains and the mountains of AZ. Permethrin treatment of long pants, hammock, and quilt would be a good idea.

Sintax77 backpacker uses a DW Half-Wit on a lot of his outings.

I will be riding my bike for almost 3,000 miles through the Rockies. Space and weight will be at a premium. I’m starting to think that I will just have to drop the hammock idea all together. Thing is, sleeping in the hammock is rejuvenating for my body. I sleep way better and it is good for my back.
    It’s a tough call.
I am surprised that no Halfwit users are chiming in on this conversation.
I should have mentioned that I do have, and use, a Half Wit made with Hexon 1.0. It works very well to keep out mosquitoes, flies and gnats, with the obvious caveat you mentioned in your first post. I personally don't have any problem with bugs biting through the hammock itself, but some people do, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to treat with Permethrin.

It might work well for your trip, and on those few nights where it doesn't you always have the tent option.

Just curious, why is the tent your main shelter, and what tent do you plan to carry?

Also there is the Ultra Lite Gear forum where folks might be able to help with the minimalist concept for the overall kit, and the Bikepacking forum as well. Or perhaps you have this already dialed in and don't want to change anything else.
