I have a recently purchased DW Half-Wit but have only used it for day outings to date. I find the bug net a bit too warm in hot weather. I reverse my lay and put the bug net end at my feet when it is hot.
The Half-Wit is lightweight and compact so it is probably viable for a hammock solution.
The CDT is high elevation. The lowest elevation is 3,900 feet. The nights will be cool. You will probably need the quilt every night.
My experience is that bugs are bad around dusk and dawn when the wind drops and the sun is down. During the day the breeze is high enough to limit mosquitos. Flies can be more of a problem during daylight hours. At night it is too cold for mosquitos.
I would give some thought to what you will hang the hammock from. There are long sections of the trail that are treeless high plains in WY, CO, & NM. I would research solutions for treeless sections. Maybe just cowboy camp or ground set the hammock and tarp.
I would give some thought to handling chiggers. I find them to be a problem in the high plains and the mountains of AZ. Permethrin treatment of long pants, hammock, and quilt would be a good idea.
