LA > Indian Creek Rec. Area, Woodworth, LA > Mar 3-5, 2023 - Louisiana Group Hang

    Louisiana Group Hammock Hang
Indian Creek Recreation Area, Woodworth, LA 71485
    Primitive Camping Area
    Mar 3-5, 2023

The official date for the 2023 Louisiana Spring Swing has been decided!

It's time once again to get together with our fellow hammock enthusiasts for a weekend of hammock camping fun! Join us as we gather to enjoy each other's company, good cooking and general hammock camping tech knowledge. Share some of your latest gear hacks and learn some new ones.

Click HERE to open the spreadsheet and sign up. It helps us keep a head count on who is coming and what food you’re bringing.

    Who's hanging?
Anyone and everyone, we don’t discriminate because you use a tent or because you reside in another state!

    What we hanging for?
The Annual Louisiana Group Hang is a car camping, hammock hanging event. You can hike, fish, paddle or just hang out.
If you have a hammock camping related skill or setup to demonstrate to others, please let us know and we will schedule a session or two on Saturday. We are always learning so if you want to teach us something we will all be better for it! None of us are experts in all things and there are likely some very new to hammock camping that will benefit from your knowledge! Teach us a useful skill!

    When we hanging?
March 3rd - 5th, 2023 (Some of us will be arriving on the 2nd, so feel free to come out on Thursday!)

    Where are we hanging?
The same place we hung the previous 4 hangs! Indian Creek Recreation Area, Woodworth, LA. in the Primitive Camping area.
You can find directions at the end of this post. Check back before arrival for updates on the exact section we end up in. We will post a phone # to call us if you get lost.

Click HERE for an overhead map including trails and Primitive camp area.

The campground is on a large reservoir, so bring kayaks, canoes, or boats if you want. There is a hiking trail there, and the Wild Azalea trail is nearby. There are stores nearby too, in case you need to replenish ice and beer supplies.

Here are a few links to find out more about the campground and area...

What is this going to cost me?
The cost for previous years ended up being about $5 - $10 per person depending on the number of hangers that join us. This usually covers the group rate for 2 nights.
The organizers will pre-pay for the group camp when we arrive.
Upon YOUR arrival, just inform the gate keeper that you are with the hammock camping group so you don't have to pay the individual fee. Then pay the organizers at the site.
Thursday night campers must pay the individual fee for that night.

What should campers do about food?
Saturday morning we will be flipping some pancakes and cooking some Dutch Oven Mountain Man Breakfast.
Saturday evening we are planning to have smoked pulled pork and fresh sausage for our annual community feast.
Everyone is encouraged to contribute a side dish to be shared. The raffle will begin immediately following dinner!

How much food do we need to bring for Saturday if I choose to cook something for the community dinner?
In previous years we had about 20 campers so a medium sized casserole type dish will usually allow most campers to have a sample of your masterpiece. Don't be afraid to show off your cooking skills. We have some super awesome cooks and usually have enough food for double the people there!
Dutch oven desserts/cobblers are always a treat!

ALL OTHER MEALS ARE UP TO EACH INDIVIDUAL CAMPER!
Although don't be surprised if there are lots of hot dogs being roasted Friday night along with other food being shared!

The "Parade of Prizes" raffle will take place again this year!
Raffle tickets are $1 each so don't forget to bring some CA$H!
Donations for the raffle are always appreciated. All proceeds from the raffle go towards the overhead costs of the raffle prizes. The number and quality of prizes each year is quite amazing!

    What about firewood?
It's always hard to find wood so plan on bringing as much as you can to contribute to the communal fire pit. There are usually locals in the area that sell wood.

A few things to remember for those attending for the first time.
    * Come completely self-contained as you would on any car camping trip.
    * Don’t forget a camp chair to sit around and hear some of the great stories to be told!
    * LNT - Leave NO Trace - Leave your campsite and the campground in general, cleaner than you found it! We all want to enjoy nature so keep it natural!
    * Please ensure any pets are kept on a leash. Not all camping folk enjoy your pets invading their bubbles.

This campground is PRIMITIVE! There are no tent pads, or lantern hooks or tables!
There are a couple flush toilets with water spigots available. It’s a good distance (short drive/long hike) from the campsites so it’s best to bring enough water with you for you and your guests for the entire weekend. Be sure to bring your own toilet tissue in case the bathroom doesn’t have any.

    Google Directions…
Follow I-49 to exit 73 (Woodworth) LA-3265 W/Robinson Bridge Rd.
Continue West on LA-3265 W/Robinson Bridge Rd. for approx. 3.5 miles.
Turn left onto Camp Ground Rd.
Follow to park entrance, approx 1.25 miles.
Take the 1st left after the gate and follow to the Primitive area.

DON’T SPEED! There’s usually local police in the area of Campground Rd. And the speed limits drops right before there!

    * We will post the exact location once we arrive there to set up. We will also post a phone # to call for lost wanderers!

Chad just asked me if I had heard anything about this year's Hang.
I will be there. I will put the word out to Chad and My Brother-In Law, and my Son, if he's not working.

Everyone getting excited for the upcoming hang? The pork butt is smoked and the sauce will be whipped up soon. Everyone get your chef hats on and let’s see what you can impress us with this year! Do we love the camping or do we love the food? I think it’s a tie!!! LOL. Fun times ahead!
