    Grand Trunk "Evolution" Down Hammock

I just stumbled across this (or, a review video stumbled across me on YouTube): https://www.grandtrunk.com/products/...0-down-hammock

Seems like an interesting idea, especially if you're the claustrophobic type that maybe finds top quilts restrictive. Cost-wise, it's less than what you'd spend on a hammock, TQ & UQ (at 20 degree ratings), although it's just a hair over 10' long and weighs over 4 pounds.

They've always been short but now it seems as GT has given up on the diagonal lay altogether.

Looks a bit light on the insulation for a 20deg rating.

Early on I had a GT hammock and although the stated length was about 10' that included the suspension, however the actual channel-to-channel length was 9' and the width was 4'. Okay to lounge a bit but not actually sleep. I tried it one night just for the heck of it and sure enough it was not a positive experience. And I do use actual 10' hammocks, DH and SLD, 10' x 64" which work great for me.

I can confirm that. I have a couple of GT hammocks and 10’ on the package means more like 8 1/2’ as measured by me.

GT is nothing short of dishonest in their product descriptions and should be regarded with upmost skepticism. Like others, my "10-foot" Trunktech hammock length included the continuous loops (which are made from 1/2" webbing sewn into loops, not the industry standard 7/64" spiced dyneema) and the carabiners. Seriously, the hammock itself was less than 9 foot as normally measured and cost more than a custom 11 or even 12 foot from Dutchwear that is a longer, wider, lighter and stronger product.

I wouldn't trust the "650" down or 20 degree rating for a second.

Stick with well regarded and properly designed Superior Gear system if you want an integrated hammock and quilt setup.

    Just my $.02, ymmv, hyoh.

Wow. Those reviews are pretty special.

I did like the guy who said to order direct from GT because it is better for dealing with warranty issues. Was that really a positive…
