That's my method when I'm just solo camping. When I'm camping w/ my partner, usually in a vehicle or kayak, I carry a bigger "camp light"/ battery pack. Something that I can leave on low in the camp area, turn up when wanting more light, and charge headlamps or phones off of if needed.

I have one of these Nebo Mycro lights with me at all times; it is very light (ouch) and just hangs on my belt loop. Invaluable when you need a light. Costs a bit more, is rechargeable, has a red and a green led function, high, medium and low light as well as a ‘turbo’ 400 lumen capability. I just hang it on my ridge-line. If you need a beacon to find your hammock you could just turn the red or green led on and let it shine while you wander to do whatever.8A8CCFF3-D2D5-4004-B77E-4E4997173D77.jpg

Sometimes I like to feel more cozy and run some LED string lights along the ridgeline. Uses 3 AA batteries so it's a bit hefty for backpacking.

I use fairy lights like these too sometimes. I use a lighter weight version with a single button battery. They only weigh 13g (less than 1/2 ounce) each. They also make versions with two button batteries. I keep mine in a snack-size ziploc bag and use a couple of twist ties to connect to my ridgeline. They're more fragile than a pen light, but if you're not too rough with them, they'll last many trips. Even when they break, it's not much of a concern because they are so incredibly cheap (the example below is $9 for a 12-pack).

There are a lot of options out there. Here's just one example:

(Side tip ... if you need 2032 button batteries, it's cheaper to buy these lights and remove the batteries inside than to buy the batteries separately.)
~ All I want is affordable, simple, ultralight luxury. That’s not asking too much is it?

Think I just found my new Christmas lights, albeit a single night.
Lurker for years here - Trying to increase my post count so I can sell one of my hammocks.
