NC - Uwharries Beach Camp Sat 1/14

I’m heading to the Grayson winter hang next week but plan to test some of my winter kit this Saturday in the Uwharries (while it’s still dry!). I plan to park at Yates after lunch (1pm?) and then do the short hike over to Beach camp to set up for dinner and a camp fire. I know this is a bit last minute but feel free to join if you want to get out for a quick overnight. Rumor is Phantom may be hunting the Carolina Bloodsucker in an about these parts using some hillbilly mojo, so we may have a sighting or two. Temps are expected to drop just below freezing overnight but no precip in the forecast.

Looking like it’s just you and me Dave! If anyone else is on the fence you should should come. Beach camp has great trees for hanging with the creek right adjacent for Phantom style bottomless coffee. Casual hike in and out with the cars not far away. Mid 40s Saturday afternoon with an expected overnight low of 24f. Brrrrrrrrr - winter camping here we come!

What a blast! Thanks Andy for posting a quick overnight in Uwharries.
We met .a US Army Sergeant at Beech Camp. Good thing we invited him to our campfire,as he dragged up lots of firewood.
Hunter is cool, great to camp, swap stories and drink coffee.
Some ice formed in smaller water containers and my Evernew water bags were beginning to form ice crystals.
Man that hot coffee was good. Sorry I didn’t talk as much, but recently I swore off telling lies

Thanks Phantom - always good to get out even for a quick overnight. I think it got down to mid 20s by 7am. My thermometer read a low of 32f inside the hammock with the winter shield zipped up, and that usually adds 5-7 degrees of additional warmth for me.

Hunter probably finished his hike before we made it back to the cars. Young legs will do that for you.
