    Joshue Tree Day Hike Recommendations

Some friends are organizing a guys trip January 19-22 around the Palm Springs area. Planning on taking a day to go hiking and thought folks on here might have some great insight on the place. Big or small, as long as it is less than 20 miles!

It is very nice. It is not hot in the winter. Actually, Be prepared for any weather. I was there in January a number of years ago. It was 30 and windy. They had snow the week before, but it was expected to be 70 the next week.

My favorite hike I've done there was Barker Dam. There are some incredible pictographs and petroglyphs along the hike if you explore. The vast majority are unmarked, to keep them safe, so you have to poke around to find them. So while the hike is barely over a mile you'll want to go off the trail to find the best stuff. Some cool wildlife in the area too. Make sure to get pizza from Pie for the People on your way in. It's fantastic pizza.

Will add Barker Dam to the list and be sure to enjoy the exploring! Also hit that pizza place on the way out once an appetite is worked up, menu looks great. Got a favorite pizza?

All the advice was very much appreciated. We arrived at the trailhead for Warren's Peak at 5:45 or so and it was dark, 30 degrees, and incredibly windy. Nailed those conditions DrPhun. We made it to the top a couple of minutes before sunrise despite the winds best efforts.

Probably my favorite part of going up in the dark is that when you come back down the views are all brand new. After Warren's we headed over to Barker's Dam and had a great time. We stopped a lot to just go scrambling up rocks on the side and had a blast. We didn't come across any unmarked pictographs or petroglphys but the climbing alone was worth it.

Last adventure in the park was the Panorama Loop and Warren Peak. By the end of that my friends and I were ready for some pizza so we met up with the rest of the people who were on the trip (but didn't want to get up at 4 to go to Joshua Tree if you can believe it) and did Pie for the People.

    Great day.
