    Most hikers will have a couple of stuff sacks with clothing or layers you were hiking in. Just put one of those under your ankles and it should offer more insulation than a pad.
    Unless I'm wearing VB socks, I usually see "steam" rising from the footbox of my quilt for the first few hours I'm in the hammock.
    If I'm car camping, it's a totally different experience.

    I have used both an Arrowhead Equipment foot pad (thin one) and a Thermarest Sit pad. I think I like the Thermarest sit pad better.
