Partial UQ at 20 - whats in the box?

If you use a partial UQ below freezing what have you successfully used for insulation under your feet and lower legs? 1/8 inch GG thinlight? 1/4 inch? Regular old CCF like a switchback? Cheers

I used a GG back/sit pad from when they were eggcrate style. I liked the length because it could curve up over my feet in the footbox and keep it more open.
I did try a different foot pad before and it's width caused the footbox to press down on my toes and they were cold.

I only use my 3/4 UQs when the temp is 30* F or higher. I tried all kinds of foot pads but my feet always got cold. Anything below 30* F, I use full length UQs.

Also putting you down jacket or vest that you may not be sleeping in over the footbox of TQ really helps too.
I use a Thermarest Sit pad lightly inflated inside my TQ too.

I use a 6 to 8 section piece of z-rest. Does extra duty as sit pad, lounge pad, and lets me at least sleep a little if I have to go to ground.

I wouldn't call it ideal, though - I'm seriously considering a superior gear setup, as soon as I figure out what gear I can sell to afford one!

I'm really short so length is almost full size for me. I've had good luck with ReflexIt in my experimentation.

+1 on what Shug said: Zip up your puffy and stuff your feet, inside the top quilt, into the puffy. Works great. Otherwise, I carry a piece of 1/8 inch foam mat from Mountain Laurel Designs and use that underneath the foot end of the top quilt. The real key, though, is insulated booties. Mine are DIY, but several vendors sell them and a search of the forums will probably find some examples.
