First night in my Dream Hammock Sparrow in the Himalayas

We are missionaries living in a Himalayan village. We realized that we needed hiking gear when we go up to the remote villages. It took just a few Shug videos to convince me that a hammock is the way to go for my 57 year old knees. My Dream Hammock Sparrow arrived a few days ago.

After two days of playing with it on our balcony, I was finally ready to give it a go on the first of January. My improvised underquilts were positioned and I was cocooned inside both our sleeping bags. As I called for hubby to turn off the light, I realized that the cap of my water bottle had come off and I was soaked! Yes, I really should have gotten that ridge line organizer.

After an afternoon of fiddling with my DIY underquilt, I was ready to give it another try. I had learnt that attaching the shoulder side tie-outs to the balcony railing, prevents the quilt from slipping out from under my feet.

I can now say that I had a perfectly toasty, comfortable night at temperatures hovering around freezing.

The next challenge is to take it out into the deodar forest.

Here in our village, Mcleod Ganj, the coldest that we have experienced is -5C, but we are usually about 100m below the snow line. A short walk will get you to much lower temperatures. We do have a lot of rain though, our annual rainfall is about 8 feet, half of that falling in the three months of monsoon.

Ridgeline organizers are a must imo. You can always buy ones you can put in later, hammockgears velcros over. I think dream has Thiers sewn shut and puts it over when they make the hammock.

Toward enlightening my ignorance, I needed to do a search, non-Google for those who care, for what north of Hades a deodar forest was. The website https://unsolvedmysteriesindia.blogs...l-pradesh.html was helpful in resolving some of my ignorance. However, I noted the following quote from the Journal of American Science:

"“As Himalaya is considered to be the home of gods, it is believed that the forests are the part of their house. The landscape around temple is considered sacred and is preserved as temple grove. The tree of Cedrus deodara is believed to be the tree of God and is planted around temples,” wrote the authors of a 2006 article in The Journal of American Science."

Hopefully, you will be able to provide an alternate explanation what is the "home of the gods", e.g. 2 Cor. 6:16. PS: I'm also a big fan of the DH Sparrow and use one daily as my portable 'couch' for naps and watching on line videos. But I suppose the Netflix reception is somewhat spotty in your neck o' the woods, eh?

The Gear Sling is also quite handy. especially in cold weather so you have a spot for all the peeled off layers!
