    NC Yates Hang Spring 2023 March 9 10 11 12

I had to get home to unload some gear, my car was too full to find anything, without unloading into rain.

When I got back to Yates, Iceman was about to get in his truck.
I found a blue mini-cooler in woods, and gave three micro brewed craft brewed beers to Carlos.
I have cooler. Iceman, is it yours?

During wee hours of Sunday morning rain began to fall Mixed with Snow. It did not stick, but I shook ice off my tarp while breaking camp.

Neither fire nor rain and snow can dampen our spirits! I hope everyone enjoyed hammock camping with all our friends.

We welcome Doc! Our newest camper!
Sam’s guitar was pleasant live music around campfire

Special thanks to all our Old Pros. And great camp cooking was delicious. Thank You Tazmaniac, Shaw, TomTom, Roger, Slugger and Iceman for cooking up a storm!

Heather you are wonderful—lively conversation around campfire and great energy getting ready for Air Land&Sea Sandwiches. All round great group from South Carolina and Georgia.

    Bob won “Purdy Boil” contest.
    Tour of Hammocks
Don Kemp and Sweet Babydoll showed their Superior Gear Hammock with built in insulation.
Crawldaddy demonstrated his Superior Gear Hammock with built in insulation.

I understand all who left EARLY, due to rain and controlled burn. Stuff happens. I called Rangers in January to let them know when we would have Yates. I also went to Ranger station about 10-12 days before Yates.
I don’t think Rangers knew of controlled burn until day of burn.
Probably a different government agency does the controlled burns.

Here’s hoping you enjoyed your sandwich hog hoagie blimpie submarine bomb sub hero grinder wedge pita gyro spuckie spuckadella!!!

GreaseDoc, Slugger, Iceman, Fireman Bob and Heather made our fire roar

    You Are Yates!!!

I started a "Trip Report" thread over on Trip Reports for the hang.

Thanks everyone for a wonderful time — I’m glad my schedule opened up to spend 24 hours or so with you. Scout Sunday went well, btw :-).

I got up early EARLY, but went right back to sleep listening to the rain on the tarp. Was pleasantly surprised to be the last man standing.

I am not missing a cooler, PG, so it's not mine. Mine was in the truck keeping zero beers cold.

Thanks for a great time everyone. Fun to hang with so many awesome folks.

Packed up and wheeled out about 9am Saturday, beautiful ride home via back roads and crisp sunny sky. Too old and tired to ride in the cold rain.

Phantom, sorry I didn't say thank you or goodbye (or to enjoy the sammy's), but as always, a great get together. You 'da man! So appreciative of your efforts to create such an event.

Sorry we missed EVERYONE After hearing about the burn and the gate closed we just went down Moccasin Creek RD and found a place big enuf for all of our clan. We had 3 tents and 5 hammocks and needed some flat ground. I know that the prime spots fill up fast not to mention the homeless who usually get the spot we like. We had all intention to come by but come Sunday it was BUG OUT! and we all fled. We were there in spirit.

Would have been room for all but no toilet. Our son Josh is now a hammocker!

Hello from the hammock! Good morning!
