    Camping near Colorado Springs

    Hello everyone,

I'm from Louisiana (unfortunately) and we will be going on vacation in Colorado Springs next week. I am bringing my camping gear (and renting some there due to airline baggage limits) and I would like to go hammock camping for about 2 nights. I am looking at Cheyenne Mountain State Park and was wondering if anyone here has any experience there? Are there trees for hammock camping there (down here they cut the trees down in our parks to make way for motorhomes and campers)? Is there anywhere else close to Colorado Springs that is worth checking out? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks all....

I know we’ve talked about camping in the area there, just haven’t been able to do it yet

I've camped at Mueller State Park. Great trees for hammocking. We were at one of the walk-in sites. Took a hike lead by one of the park rangers and learned tons about the park.

Muller State Park, I will give them a call tomorrow and see what the deal is. I've read a few articles online about how the state parks in Co are not hammock friendly. Thanks for the tips you all, please keep them coming. Does anyone know if there is a place to rent camping gear. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get sleeping bags for two people onto the airplane haha. We are so excited to finally go camping in the snow it is going to be amazing if we can pull it off!

Try calling a local outfitter if there isn't an REI nearby. They will probs be able to help you out.
