Cool 2 ridgerunners, bunk bed style, one tarp?

Anyone ever try stacking 2 Ridgerunner hammocks one on top of the other in order to share one large tarp when backpacking?

Looking for a solution for backpacking with my young son who prefers to be as close as possible to me when we are in the backcountry. I have searched but so far only found examples of people stacking regular gathered end hammocks.

    Thanks all.

I may be in the minority, but I'd avoid that for safety reasons. You may want to attempt side-by side too (like this: https://youtu.be/kzLXUAiF11Y) but the bridge hammock width might make this approach not work. I'm curious what you'll end up doing because you can't be the first person to want to do this!

Hammock rule #1. Never hang any higher than you are willing to fall! When my son was young, we would hang off 3 trees in two hammock s with a big tarp. Worked great!

FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

With the stacked setup, someone will be on the bottom. That person might not sleep very well; I wouldn't. Also, if you've seen how much vertical space a RR takes when person-loaded you'll understand how high that second hammock has to be. Very difficult to get into, very difficult getting out of, and a nightmare for the person under it.

Remember, you have the hammock height above ground, then you have your torso/head height sitting up in the hammock, then you have the bottom of the hammock above you with someone in it. ,,, That top hammock is going got be pretty high. And you have to put a tarp above that.

The best is side by side - albeit, easier with two GE hammocks. The Side-by-Side is achieved with two wide trees, a hammock coming off each side (so separated by the diameter of the tree), or, as stevebo suggested, use three trees and share the head end.

That makes the Tarp a challenge. Some vendors (DutchWare) offer extra-wide tarps. I'm guessing if you had two regular-sized tarps you could find a way to kludge them together.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

At least they took the extra safety-measure of putting the skipper on the bottom hammock!

You might want to consider using a Tensa solo pole so that you can adjust the distance of the two hang points. Your feet can stack pretty close if your heads have room. The solo would allow you to use two trees and one extra hang point with a separation distance of your choice.

Entry and exit from the top hammock could get really interesting.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

A quick Google search found lots of options, here’s a video from Sintax77 using a Dutchware solution:

Definitely don’t want to stack vertically…

Your young son would gain no comfort from being in proximity to you with that setup. I've always thought stacking was a stupid idea with a gathered-end hammock, but it sounds even stupider with bridge hammocks. Your son could suffer permanent psychological, and possibly physical injuries, from ingress/egress calamities that will no doubt ensue.
