I think that the biggest problem for me is that my rear end is down basically in a pocket, and my legs are up higher because of the edge of the hammock. So I think that folding the edge of the hammock up/or in and then using that edge to push down with my hands and pushing back with my feet to a more upright position might make it easier for me to exit the hammock so I will have to try that. Thanks for all the good ideas.
Shug I can see why you had rotator cuff surgery lol.

    Watch videos of pole vaulters
Of course pole vaulting and exiting hammock are two distinct activities
As the vaulter nears the bar, he kicks both legs up over the bar. This helps pull rest of body over the bar
You are laying in your hammock
Ok to hang foot or both feet a bit over edge of fabric at foot end. Ok to grab fabric with near side hand
Push with feet and pull with hand to get turned to a good diagonal with both feet outside of hammock

But you are still lying down in your hammock and your butt is at the bottom of the well

Now turn your head and torso towards side you want to exit

You will have turned looking in direction you want to go—just like a cat looks in direction it wants to go

    You are still laying down

Now draw both knees close to your chest and kick with both feet UP and Out in direction you want to go
Your now straightened legs that have just now kicked like a pole vaulter, will help pull you into an upright sitting position
The weight and length of your extended legs will do most of the work—as opposed to a sit-up crunch motion
You are now sitting up and both feet are either flat on ground or close to ground

Wait a few seconds, in case you got dizzy
After waiting a few seconds—stand up
Ok to grab hammock side to help get up

    Good luck
