    Greetings from Pennsylvania!

65 y.o. lady who fell in love with backpacking in 2021 and has been section hiking the Loyalsock Trail with a couple of girl friends, this year. Some of the campsites that we have used barely fit all 3 of our tents and I have often thought about using a hammock, instead of the tent I currently use. I bid on and won, an HH Expedition on Ebay and changed out the suspension system and then changed out the standard rain fly to a dcf tarp with the optional doors. I don't think I'll pack the hammock every time we hike but I am looking forward to trying it at some point in 23 (after trying an overnighter in our backyard). Thanks for all the advice and information you all share in this forum - I've certainly learned a lot!

There are hammock campers in your area, who will be glad to show their gear. All kinds of different set ups will work.
I think it’s important to have a hammock at least 11x5 feet. Equally important is to have adequate insulation. I started with closed cell foam pad and as soon as I could afford, got a 20* set of under quilt and top quilt.
If you haven’t already, watch Shug’s YouTube ten plus videos
    How to hang a hammock
How to pitch tarp over hammock
    Insulation pads
    Insulation quilts
    Suspensions for hammock

I’ve paraphrased his titles, Shug’s videos are spot on informative, instructional and very entertaining.

Group hangs are often posted on Hammock Forums
Lots to learn about hammocks at hangs as well as swapping lies and drinking coffee

When first learning hammock camping and insulation, it’s good to camp where you can easily retreat to a warm tent, car or, home, in case of too cold etc

    Good luck

Welcome!! I think you'll find you get a much better night's sleep in a hammock and the recovery from a day of hiking is quicker and gets you ready for more a lot faster than the ground.
    Keep getting out there!

Welcome from the Southwest part of Pa. I envy your being out there hiking and camping. unfortunately my camping and hanging is now restricted to my back yard. Hoping to spend Christmas eve in my hammock with snow falling.
